The Newberry Wolves are the preseason favorite for South Atlantic Conference baseball.

The Wolves, 43-15 last season, received nine first-place votes in a poll of SAC head coaches.

Wingate is second in the poll and got one first-place vote. Lenoir-Rhyne got three first-place votes and is picked third.

Next are Catawba, Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman, Anderson, Tusculum, Coker, Limestone and Mars Hill, UVA Wise and Emory & Henry tied for the final spot.

Catawba has four players on the preseason All-SAC team.

Starting pitcher Austin Fine and outfielder Dylan Driver (Carson) made the first team. Shortstop Levi Perrell is on the second team, while starting pitcher Mason Gwyn is on the third team.

First pitch for the 2024 season is on Thursday, Feb. 1.
