SALISBURY — A 30-year-old Rockwell man was arrested Tuesday after deputies said he stole more than $7,000 in farming equipment from a neighbor.
The arrest came one week after Bryant Chase-Evan Casey, 130 Mallard Lane, turned himself in when authorities confronted him about a stolen vehicle that was sold for scrap metal in Concord.
On Feb. 13, authorities spoke with Casey at 1155 Deer Valley Road about a truck that was towed from the property, according to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Casey and 24-year-old Jeremy Thomas told deputies that they paid $200 for the truck.
But the truck’s owner, Andrew Christianberry, said it wasn’t him.
Casey and Thomas returned the truck and were both charged with misdemeanor larceny. They were later released on written promises.
About a week later, Casey’s Mallard Lane neighbors contacted authorities when they realized lawn mowers, a tractor disc, tractor boom, cultivators and scrape blades were missing.
Deputies spoke to neighbors in the area and said in the report that one resident was asked if he wanted to buy farm equipment from Casey.
After a brief investigation, officers arrested Casey again and charged him with felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny and obtaining property by false pretense.
He was in jail Wednesday morning under a $10,000 bond.
