SALISBURY — A 19-year-old was charged with stabbing a man early this morning after authorities said the victim went to the hospital with injuries.
Deputy D.W. Dearth responded to an assault call about 4 a.m. at 2418 Airport Road and spoke to Carlos Rodriguez, who said he was assaulted and stabbed one of his attackers. He also said his cellphone was stolen.
But after speaking with Manuel McCants — who was going into surgery for stab wounds at Rowan Regional Medical Center — deputies weren’t buying it.
McCants, 24, told deputies that Rodriguez started a fight with another person and McCants punched him while Rodriguez was chasing the other person with a knife, according to the arrest report.
Rodriguez then began stabbing McCants.
After leaving, McCants went home, showered and took himself to the hospital.
A hospital spokesperson did not immediately respond to phone calls Friday morning.
Rodriguez was arrested in the 200 block of Hickory Lane. The 19-year-old was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
He was given a $100,000 bond and was in jail today.
