College men’s basketball: Balanced Indians advance to SAC tourney semis

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Catawba’s men’s basketball team put five in double figures and handled Coker 87-77 in a South Atlantic Conference Tournament quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Catawba led by 25 points with six minutes left.
The third-seeded Indians shot it straighter than the sixth-seeded Cobras and a 21-11 edge in the turnover battle enabled Catawba to put up quite a few more shot attempts.
Catawba shot 47 percent and made seven 3-pointers.
Peyton Gerald led the Indians with 17 points. Shad Thomas scored 14, Montraivis White and Javeon Jones scored 11 each, and O’Mazeon Tinsley scored 10.
Mahmoud Bangora scored 25 for the Cobras, who finished the season at 15-14.
Catawba (21-4) moves into a semifinal matchup with second-seeded Wingate that will be played on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Rock Hill Sports and Event Center.
Catawba, Wingate and top-seeded Lincoln Memorial tied for first in the regular season. LMU advanced to the semifinals, along with fifth-seeded Carson-Newman.
