(An earlier version of the story said that the stop sign was coming to the Dunn’s Mountain Road intersection. Instead, the stop sign will be at the Dunn’s Mountain Church Road intersection.)

SALISBURY — Drivers on Stokes Ferry Road can expect a small delay on Monday as the North Carolina Department of Transportation works to install a four-way stop sign at the Dunn’s Mountain Church Road intersection.

Installation crews will have one lane of Stokes Ferry Road shut down in the area of the Dunn’s Mountain Road intersection on Monday. Currently, the NCDOT projects the closure to last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on that day.

Stokes Ferry Road does not currently have a stop sign. Instead, only Dunn’s Mountain Church and Earnhardt roads have stop signs while Stokes Ferry has a blinking caution light. 

Driving either to or from Salisbury on Stokes Ferry Road, the intersection is at the top of a hill, making it difficult to see other drivers safely. The location had 13 crashes between 2018 and 2022, including four that caused injuries. One of the injuries was a b-type, which means that it did not kill or disable the victim but was still obvious to emergency personnel. The other three were c-type, which were less severe injuries that also did not leave visible signs.

Six of the collisions were frontal impacts, four were rear-end and one was a sideswipe crash.

The seven hours on Monday will be spent installing the signs and marking the pavement, the NCDOT website stated.
