College softball: Indians out-slug Mars Hill

SALISBURY — Catawba’s softball team won two wild South Atlantic Conference games on Tuesday.
The Indians rallied to beat Mars Hill 14-6 and 14-13.
Catawba (13-13, 2-2) started SAC play with a doubleheader loss at Anderson on Sunday, but bounced back with the sweep of the Lions.
Catawba trailed 6-4 going to the bottom of the sixth in the first game, but put together a 10-run inning to beat the Lions (9-13, 0-4) by the eight-run rule.
Brianna Herring had a homer and a double and drove in six runs.
Kary Hales had three hits and scored four runs. She was also the winning pitcher in relief.
Brianna Gallagher had three hits. Riley Tucker had two doubles.

In the second game, Catawba scored five in the bottom of the seventh to pull it out.
Courtnee Carter walked with the bases loaded to force in the deciding run.
Hales belted two homers and drove in four.
Winning pitcher Tucker had three hits, including a homer. Grace Flynn had three hits and three RBIs.
Herring and Madison Taylor also homered for the Indians.
Catawba plays at Tusculum on March 20.
