High school softball roundup: South, East win SPC games on Thursday

CONCORD — East Rowan won 7-1 at Northwest Cabarrus behind the pitching of Madi Tigert and another stout defensive effort.
Lily Kluttz and Jordan Dry homered for the Mustangs (4-1, 4-0) in the South Piedmont Conference game.
“Northwest is better exponentially than they were last season,” East coach Todd McNeely said. “Their pitcher put in a lot of work in the offseason.”
• East had eight hits but lost 3-2 in nine innings at North Davidson in a non-conference game on Wednesday.

LANDIS — South Rowan had a seven-run second and beat Concord 7-3 in South Piedmont Conference action on Thursday.
Danica Krieg tripled and drove in three runs for the Raiders (2-5-1, 2-3). Carmen Thomas had two hits and drove in a run. Campbell Withers and Ava Daniel had hits and RBIs.
Eva Shue had a double and pitched four strong innings with eight strikeouts. She allowed two hits.
• On Wednesday, South lost 14-13 to Lake Norman despite a monster game by Kynlee Dextraze, who had four hits. She hit two homers, including a grand slam.
Leisha Carter also homered for South. Krieg had three hits.
“A couple of mistakes but getting better,” South coach Dean Mullinax said. ‘We had 17 hits.”
That was after getting zero hits agains the Mustangs on Tuesday.

TYRO — West Davidson breezed to an 11-0 Central Carolina Conference win against Salisbury on Thursday.
Hannah Rollins and Mylee Freidberg combined on the five-inning shutout for the Green Dragons (2-3, 1-0).
Katie Peeler had the only two hits for Salisbury (2-2, 2-1), including a double.

NORWOOD — South Stanly pitcher Kinsley Tyson threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in Wednesday’s 10-0 non-conference win against Carson (1-5).

North Rowan is scheduled to play Friday at Thomasville.
West Rowan is scheduled to play at home at 1 p.m. on Saturday against Central Cabarrus.
Central (4-0) banged out 15 hits in Wednesday’s 17-1 non-conference win against A.L. Brown (0-4).
