SALISBURY — The Jubilee Community Choir will present an Easter Cantata, “Calvary’s Love,” on Palm Sunday, March 24, at 4 p.m. In the sanctuary of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, 306 North Church Street.

Calvary’s Love tells the story of God’s Son, a “young, poor carpenter who was tortured and killed about 2,000 years ago in a place that was, and still is known for hatred and war. His death was violent. This beautifully written cantata helps us to look deeper into the qualities of Christ’s love. Grace and mercy are the most endearing attributes. These expressions are evident in His actions with the Samaritan woman, Nicodemus, Peter and in what Christ did through His death on the cross for all of us. The musical highlights several events in Christ’s life and expresses the probable feelings of those to whom He reached out.

The choir opens with “Almighty God,” followed with “Before All Time,” a solo featuring Mitch Seigle. Other soloist are Monica Green and Denise Matthewson Witherspoon singing “In Heaven’s Eyes” and Edwin Rush singing the role of Peter in “And Can It Be.”

Soliloquies are presented of the Samaritan woman, Nicodemus, Peter and a modern-day testimony.

The Jubilee Choir will be accompanied by Kay Wright Norman, music director and keys; Stephen Wiliams, organist; the Chevalier String Quartet; and Dr. Kinard Douthit, flautist.

The public is invited to share in this beautiful musical cantata written by Greg Nelson, Tom Fettke and Phil McHugh and arranged by Tom Fettke. A free will offering will be available.
