THOMASVILLE — Salisbury’s 10-run rule loss at home to Thomasville on Tuesday was rock bottom for coach Carson Herndon.

“One of the worst games I’ve been a part of,” Herndon said.

The Hornets rebounded on Friday, beat the Bulldogs 8-6 in eight innings on the road for a Central Carolina Conference win and managed to split the season series.

Salisbury (1-3, 1-1) was missing three key players on Tuesday, but had two of them back on Friday. Hank Webb has reported for duty after his basketball season ended on Wednesday. Jackson Sparger had a golf match Tuesday, but was back with the baseball team Friday.

Another basketball standout is on the way. Herndon expects to get center fielder Mike Geter back on Monday. Geter will upgrade the outfield defense and he’ll score runs.

Evan Koontz led the Hornets in Friday’s win over the Bulldogs (1-4, 1-1). He had two doubles, scored three runs and drove in two.

Landon Tucker had three RBIs. Jaylin Graham-Taylor had two hits. Ben Young stole three bases.

Koontz and Webb did the pitching. Koontz struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings of relief and got the win.

Webb struck out four in 3 1/3 innings.

“This was a lot better night for us,” Herndon said.
