Kannapolis promotes Hassenfritz to engineering director

KANNAPOLIS — Following former engineering director Scott Kaufhold’s recent retirement, the city of Kannapolis promoted its deputy engineering director to fill the position.
A Monday release from Kannapolis Communications Director Annette Keller indicated that Beth Hassenfritz would be taking over the city’s engineering department.
Hassenfritz is a native of South Carolina and received her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Clemson University. She began her career with a consulting firm that served municipalities across the Carolinas.
According to the release, in 2005, Hassenfritz joined the Charlotte’s in-house design department, where she designed and managed transportation projects that included roadways, pedestrian facilities, roundabouts and transit.
Hassenfritz joined the Kannapolis Engineering Department in 2018, where she has been involved with all the variety of projects. She has directed and supervised engineering projects across all city departments, including: Harding Avenue sidewalk, Coventry Road storm drainage, U.S. Highway 29 sewer rehabilitation, Block 8 parking lot, Kannapolis Crossing water and sewer extension, Jim Johnson Road water main, Lane Street infrastructure and multiple federally-funded projects.
Hassenfritz loves being outdoors, usually with her husband, Kirk, and their five children.
In an email on Monday, Keller said the opening for deputy engineering director would be posted soon.
