High school baseball roundup: Falcons, Mustangs win; losses for Cougars, Raiders

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan beat Robinson 8-2 in a South Piedmont Conference baseball game played on Wednesday.
Alex Hagler pitched into the fifth inning. Brant Graham relieved, got the last out in the fifth and was the winning pitcher. He pitched the sixth and seventh.
The Falcons (5-3, 4-3) won the game when they broke a 2-all tie with a six-run fifth.
Wade Turner had two doubles and two RBIs for the Bulldogs (5-5, 3-4).
Ty Martin’s two-run single was the biggest blow for the Falcons. Drew Burton, Cole Blevins, Maddox Moore and Brice Knox had RBIs.
Burton is batting .471 with a .710 on-base percentage.

WELCOME — East Rowan won 7-2 at North Davidson in a non-conference game played on Wednesday.
The Mustangs (8-1) took a 3-2 lead to the seventh and finally put the game away with a four-run top of the seventh.
Mason Phelps pitched four innings with three strikeouts for the win. Joe Burleyson fanned eight and earned a three-inning save.
Sam Blackwelder and Logan Dyer had doubles for East.
Blackwelder drove in three runs. Dyer, Burleyson and Braden Shive had RBIs.
East played without Cobb Hightower. He took a line drive off a foot on Tuesday when he was pitching.
North Davidson (4-4) had a four-game winning streak stopped.

LANDIS — Mooresville only got five hits, but the Blue Devils (1-9) took their first win of the season with a 3-1 decision at South Rowan on Wednesday.
Mooresville scored two runs in the first inning of the non-conference game and led all the way.
Eli Bodine held the Raiders (3-5) to three hits and struck out eight.

CHINA GROVE — Nothing went right for Carson in a 10-0 non-conference loss to South Iredell on Wednesday.
The Cougars (6-2) made six errors. Carson’s only hits were singles by Nick Ayash and Daxton Savage.
South Iredell (6-2) got strong pitching from freshman Dylan Hughesman and a homer from his older brother, Tyler Hughesman.
The Vikings scored three in the first and five in the second and cruised to a five-inning victory.
