SALISBURY — Police are investigating after a shooting at the American Legion building on Old Wilkesboro Road caused one person to be hospitalized.
Officers initially responded at approximately 1:50 a.m. to the American Legion hut, located in the 1400 block of Old Wilkesboro Road, in response to an ongoing physical disturbance, said a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department. When they arrived, the caller told the officers that two females had been fighting inside the building before the argument went outside. The caller then heard gunshots that sounded like they came from a car driving away from the building, the spokesperson said.
Officers initially searched the surrounding area and were reportedly unable to locate any shell casings or any other evidence of a shooting. At approximately 2:15 a.m., police received a call from the hospital saying that a man had been admitted into the hospital for a gunshot wound. When officers arrived, the man refused to cooperate and tell them anything about the shooting other than it happened at “the hut,” according to the spokesperson. He also allegedly told officers that he knew who shot him and that he would seek revenge.
Police then searched the area around the Legion post again and reportedly found a shell casing in the parking lot. The spokesperson said that the department is continuing to investigate the shooting.
