High school baseball roundup: Falcons, Mustangs, Hornets win; Wonders fall to Cox Mill

LANDIS — Corbin Bailey pitched a two-hitter as West Rowan’s baseball team beat South Rowan 7-0 for the Falcons’ fifth straight victory on Tuesday.
Bailey (2-0) struck out four and walked three Raiders (4-6, 3-5).
West (6-3, 5-3) is still two games behind East Rowan but is steadily climbing in the South Piedmont Conference standings.
It was scoreless until the third inning when Eli Graham’s double helped the Falcons get on the scoreboard first.
Cole Blevins and Brant Graham had two RBIs each for the Falcons. Drew Burton had a double.
Aaron Jones pitched well for South, but was hurt by five errors.

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan’s baseball team stretched its lead in the South Piedmont Conference with a 10-3 win against Carson on Tuesday.
East scored two runs in the first inning and took a 2-1 lead to the fifth. That’s when the Mustangs (9-1, 7-1) put the game away with a seven-run inning.
McCall Henderson had a double and three RBIs. Krys Hernandez had two RBIs. Braden Shive had two hits. Logan Dyer scored two runs.
Cobb Hightower hit his second home run of the season and walked twice to boost his on-base percentage to .629. He scored three runs.
Harrison Ailshie (3-0) pitched five innings for the win. Dyer pitched two innings.
Cam Williamson had two RBIs for the Cougars (6-4, 5-3).
Daxton Savage had a strong start for the Cougars until running into trouble in the seventh.

DENTON — Evan Koontz struck out 12 as Salisbury beat South Davidson 9-2 on the road in Tuesday’s Central Carolina Conference game.
The Hornets (3-5, 3-3) out-hit the Wildcats 11-5 and broke a 2-all tie with a four-run third inning.
Ben Young, Mike Geter, Landon Tucker and Jackson Sparger had two hits each. Nygel Elliott, Sparger and Geter had two RBIs.
Koontz pitched six innings against the Wildcats (3-7, 3-2), and Sparger pitched the seventh to finish off a sweep of the season series.

CONCORD — Cox Mill stayed undefeated in the Greater Metro Conference with a 10-4 win against A.L. Brown on Tuesday.
Gavin Barber hit a home run for the Chargers (9-1, 5-0).
Drew Ryan had two hits for the Wonders (3-6, 0-5). Kaidon Shinn had two RBIs.
Mason Teal took the loss on the mound.
