High school softball: Mooresville stays undefeated with win at East

GRANITE QUARRY — Mooresville’s softball team is No. 1 in the 4A West RPI rankings and stayed undefeated with a 4-2 win at East Rowan on Friday.
The Blue Devils (10-0) got strong pitching from Katelyn Brando and Campbell Schaen, who relieved in the sixth.
Maddie Colby had the run-scoring hit that broke the ice for the Blue Devils in the fourth against East pitcher Madi Tigert.
Mooresville led 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth, but a two-run single with two outs by Maddie Roberts got East back to 3-2.
Avrelle Harrell drove in an insurance run in the top of the seventh for the visitors.
East (9-2) is eighth in the 3A West RPI rankings. East’s other loss was to North Davidson. The Black Knights are second in 3A West RPI.
