SALISBURY — A Salisbury man was arrested on Friday after he allegedly told police he fled from a traffic stop “because he thought he would give it a try.”

The incident began when a China Grove police officer noticed a blue and white motorcycle driving north on U.S. Highway 29 without a license plate, according to a spokesperson for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy who was nearby reportedly responded to assist the officer with the traffic stop.

When the officer turned on his lights and sirens to attempt the traffic stop, the motorcycle sped up, the spokesperson said.. The officer then reportedly informed the deputy that he could take over as the primary car in the chase.

The chase continued north on the highway at a speed of between 90 and 100 mph, according to the spokesperson. At one point, the motorcycle driver allegedly sped through the red light at the Airport Road intersection.

Eventually, the driver of the motorcycle allegedly signaled to deputies that he was going to pull over and stopped near West Harrison Street. When asked by the deputies why he ran, the man said that he “thought he would give it a try,” according to the spokesperson. Deputies also reportedly learned that the man did not have a proper license or insurance.

The man, identified as 18-year-old Damien Carter Senesaynho, was arrested and charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving without registration, driving without liability insurance, reckless driving with wanton disregard, driving without displaying a registration plate, speeding in excess of 45 mph over the speed limit, failure to stop at a steady red light and driving without an operator’s license.

Senesaynho was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $40,000 bond.
