SALISBURY — Catawba College announces the upcoming special event, The Morning Pages, by Catawba alumnus and recording artist Christopher Williams ’12, known as YUNG Citizen, on Tuesday, April 16, in Hedrick Little Theatre, Robertson College-Community Center. The panel discussion will take place at 5 p.m. and include YUNG Citizen, Catawba counselors, and students. The panel is followed by a live performance by YUNG Citizen at 7 p.m. featuring original songs from his album “The Morning Pages.”
Both portions of the event are free and open to the public. Register to attend at tmpcatawbacollege.eventbrite.com.
YUNG Citizen is a recording artist and producer based in Charlotte where he is heavily active in the city’s music scene. YUNG blends his unique interpretations of alternative hip hop, R&B and pop to create music described as “timeless masterpieces to penetrate and refresh the inner soul.”
Founder of his own media company, Citizenship Music Group, YUNG Citizen states his ultimate goal is to create timeless music that inspires the world.
The songs written by YUNG on “The Morning Pages” are depicted as being full of honesty and vulnerability focused around YUNG’s mental health and his seeking guidance through God, therapy, and self-reflection. The work was inspired by his consistent writing of “morning pages,” a process he adopted beginning in 2020 from Julia Cameron’s book, “The Artist’s Way.” He found the practice to have a very positive effect.
“It has helped me tremendously in my personal life, my professional life, it even started trickling into my mental health journey,” Williams said.
The process also inspired him to compose several songs which make up his album titled “The Morning Pages.”
“That project, “The Morning Pages,” saved me, especially creatively, it got me out of a hole, expressed my testimony, got me out of a dark time, it healed me,” Wiliams said. “I don’t know what’s coming next, but I do know how to focus on what comes today.” He wants to share what he has learned from this creative and healing process, which has helped him and his music which was inspired by it, to encourage others in their journey.
