SALISBURY — The Special Needs Mini-Conference was a huge success, with more than 100 participants. The event offered a wealth of insights, practical resources, and networking opportunities for educators, families and caregivers.
The conference showcased a variety of engaging presentations led by experts in the field of special-needs education. Attendees not only gained valuable insights into the latest strategies for supporting various learning styles and disabilities but also discovered practical resources and tools that are already enhancing learning and development. Moreover, they connected with a network of professionals, families and caregivers, providing a strong foundation for ongoing support.
One of the highlights of the conference was a panel discussion where individuals with special needs shared their personal journeys. Parents or caregivers also provided invaluable perspectives on raising a child with special needs.
“It was an honor being asked to speak at the mini-conference this past Saturday. We’re truly blessed with an amazing village at Partners in Learning and forever grateful for their continued support, guidance and advocacy,” Heather Amaral said.
Dr. Ashley Deaton, a recognized leader in the field of special needs education, presented practical strategies to promote regulation in everyday life. Norma Honeycutt, executive director of Partners In Learning, also presented on building positive behaviors.
The conference was held at the new Wood’s site of Partners In Learning, providing a perfect platform for making connections and building relationships among the attendees.
Attendees of the conference raved about the impactful content. Parents highlighted the value of hearing personal stories, gaining new self-regulation strategies for their children, and discovering resources specifically helpful for children on the autism spectrum. The parent panel resonated deeply, fostering a sense of community and reducing feelings of isolation. Many attendees are taking away concrete takeaways, like implementing choice-based approaches to minimize power struggles and exploring the diverse sensory strategies presented.
Partners In Learning is Rowan County’s only nationally accredited center providing educational and clinical services. The organization serves children on-site, throughout the community and in the children’s homes.
