SALISBURY — School officials found a “large kitchen knife” in a 15-year-old student’s purse at East Rowan High School Friday, according to Rowan County Sheriff’s Department deputies.
Assistant Principal Rick Vanhoy searched the teen’s purse after he said she was “igniting” a lighter in class, a Sheriff’s Office report said.
As he was looking, deputies said, he found the knife. It was taken into evidence.
The report did not say if the school would impose a suspension.
The 15-year-old was given a juvenile referral citation.
