CHINA GROVE — Deputies said a China Grove man lied to officers Sunday when he told them his girlfriend pushed him into a knife.
Authorities said the woman cut his face during an argument, according to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Authorities were called to 665 Old Corriher Road for a domestic disturbance call about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Ruperto Estrada told deputies that his girlfriend pushed him during an argument in the kitchen and he fell onto a kitchen knife.
Officers found the knife in the backyard covered with blood and fingerprints.
But after speaking with Kimberly Howell, authorities said, she told them she cut his face with the knife after he headbutted her during an argument.
“They were arguing and she was pushing him with a knife in her hand,” deputies wrote in the report.
Detectives photographed the knife and took it into evidence.
Howell was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
After speaking with Estrada again, officers charged him with filing a false police report.
Both were released after posting bond.
