Four West Rowan High School students are facing suspensions after an ROTC sergeant said he saw the teens smoking marijuana under a mobile classroom unit.
The four students were caught smoking a “cigar stuffed with marijuana” about 11:30 a.m. on March 1, according to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Sgt. Ben Laster, an ROTC instructor who was patrolling the parking lot during lunch, contacted West Rowan High School Resource Officer Lana Sterling.
Two 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old were cited on juvenile referrals. A 16-year-old student was charged with simple possession of marijuana.
Deputies said the students were given 10-day suspensions.
