High school track and field: Hornets strong in major meet on Saturday

CHARLOTTE — Salisbury athletes competed in Saturday’s Need 4 Speed at Ballantyne track and field meet hosted by Ardrey Kell.
The Salisbury boys were very strong in the relays and placed third with 58 points.
The Hornets won the 4×100 in 43.12 seconds. They were second in the 4×200 (1:28.44) and 4×400 (3:34.18).
Jamal Rule had an individual win in the 400 in 48.79 seconds.
Samuel Fatovic won the 800 in 2:02.56, while Finnegan Avery placed fourth (2:07.42).
Jaylyn Smith placed third in the 200 (22.25).

Salisbury’s girls finished seventh with 33 points.
Millie Wymbs was second in the 800 (2:31.44) and third in the 400 (1:02.64).
Alyrica Abel took second in the long jump (15 feet, 1.5 inches).
Tai’lah Ward was fourth in the 200 (25.78).
The Hornets were getting ready for Thursday’s Robert Steele Rowan County Championships at East Rowan.
