High school softball roundup: Snow pitches no-hitter for Cougars; West’s Clarke belts 3 homers

CONCORD — Carson’s Caylee Snow pitched a five-inning no-hitter as Carson trounced Concord 13-0 on Friday.

Snow struck out six as the Cougars (4-13, 3-11) pounded the Spiders (4-14, 1-12).

Evie White had three hits and scored three runs for Carson, and the Cougars took advantage of 13 walks.

HUNTERSVILLE — Emma Clarke went 3-for-3 with three home runs and six RBIs as West Rowan wiped out Lake Norman Charter 10-0 in a South Piedmont Conference game played on Friday.

Ranked 11th in the 3A West RPI rankings, the Falcons (14-6, 10-3) got two hits each from Ella Doby and Taylor Keller and held Lake Norman Charter (5-11, 4-10) to four hits.

GRANITE QUARRY — Central Cabarrus beat East Rowan 6-0 on Friday and ended the Mustangs’ hopes for a perfect conference season.

East (15-3, 14-1) is still in first place and can clinch an outright championship by winning at Carson on Tuesday.

The win mattered for Central (14-5, 12-2) in the 3A West RPI rankings, and it’s probably going to make the difference as far as second place in the South Piedmont Conference.

Central got great pitching from Haley Rezy, who held a high-powered East offense to four hits. She struck out three and walked three. Danielle Smith had two RBIs for the Vikings.

East dropped to seventh in the 3A West RPI rankings. Central Cabarrus is 12th.

CONCORD — Haylee Ellis led Northwest Cabarrus to an 8-2 win against South Rowan in Friday’s battle for fourth place in the SPC.

Ellis drove in three runs at the plate for the Tojans (10-6, 9-6) and pitched a three-hitter.

Lexie Ritchie, Kynlee Dextraze and Eva Shue had hits for the Raiders (8-9-1, 7-7).

South is No. 31 in a 3A West RPI rankings.

SALISBURY — Salisbury (10-7) crunched Lexington 16-1 in three innings on Friday to wrap up Central Carolina Conference play with a 9-3 record.

Allie Peeler had a big game against Lexington, going 4-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs  and three runs scored.

Ashley Yang homered against the Yellow Jackets and drove in two.

Katie Peeler had two hits. Taliyah McCombs knocked in two runs. Addie Myers had a double.

The Hornets still have three important non-conference games to play this week in their bid to make the 2A state playoffs, starting with a trip to Wheatmore on Monday.

Salisbury is 36th in the 2A West RPI rankings and goes to Montgomery Central on Tuesday and hosts Robinson on Thursday.
