Woman shot in Salisbury on Wednesday

SALISBURY — A woman was shot in Salisbury on Wednesday at approximately 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Shaver Street and Old Concord Road.
According to Salisbury Lt. Brandon Casper, emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene in reference to a report of a victim that had been shot. Casper indicated that is is unconfirmed if the shooting occurred at location where the victim was found.
Bystanders at the scene said they found a woman with a gunshot wound in her leg lying on the ground in front of a residence in the 600 block of South Shaver Street.
Scanner traffic indicated that a tourniquet was applied to treat the injury. The victim was transported Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist for treatment. Details on the extent of her injuries were unclear at the scene.
Several nearby residents reported hearing what sounded like gunshots. The women who initially observed the victim told the Post that they rushed to assist her when they saw her lying on the ground. As they helped her up, they realized that she had been shot.
“It was just the Good Samaritan thing to do,” one of the women said.
No other details about the victim, including her identity, were readily available at the scene and the incident remains under investigation. The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
