SALISBURY — Three people, including an infant, were hospitalized after a shooting in downtown Salisbury on Wednesday. The infant and one female victim were reportedly in critical condition.
South Main Street near Chestnut Hill Cemetery was awash in blue lights after a shooting was reported to the Salisbury Police Department.
The lieutenant in charge at the scene, Brandon Casper, indicated that SPD was dispatched to the 1200 block of South Main Street at approximately 10:03 p.m. regarding a shooting.
According to a release from the Salisbury Police Department’s public information officer, Major Justin Crews, arriving officers located two females and one infant. All three were suffering from sustained gunshot wounds. The arriving first responders transported one of the women and the infant to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem with injuries described as life-threatening.
The second woman was reportedly transported to Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord with injuries described as non-life-threatening. She is reportedly in stable condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
It was the second Wednesday incident in Salisbury in which a juvenile was shot. The other incident occurred on South Shaver Street earlier in the day. The press release from the SPD indicated that no evidence had been recovered at the second scene to suggest the two incidents were related.
“The Salisbury Police Department would like to thank the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol for their assistance with the incident,” Crews said in the release.
