Tires can be legally disposed of at the Rowan County Landfill, located at 789 Campbell Road in Woodleaf.

The landfill is the only place in the county that allows tires, and only five are allowed per household per visit for no charge. Larger quantities of tires may be subject to landfill fees, according to the county’s facilities website. Tires on rims may also be subject to additional fees.

The landfill is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Many other items are accepted at all convenience centers around the county in addition to the landfill, such as batteries, electronics except for televisions, scrap metal and sharp items.

Fire extinguishers, propane tanks, helium tanks and televisions can only be disposed of at the Recycling Processing Center, located at 1102 N. Long St.

Motor oil and other motor fluids as well as oil filters can only be disposed of at the Campbell and Goodnight convenience centers, located at 665 Campbell Road and 3282 Goodnight Road.
