High school boys tennis: Hornets get 2 seed; East, Carson, West in 3A state playoffs

Salisbury’s boys tennis team (16-1) is seeded second in the 2A West bracket and received a first-round bye.
Pairings were announced on Monday.
The Hornets will open dual team play with second-round action on May 6. They’ll be at home against the winner of the first round game between 18th-seeded East Burke and 15th-seeded Community School of Davidson.
Third-round matches are scheduled for May 8.
East Rowan, Carson and West Rowan made the 32-team bracket for the 3A West playoffs. All will be underdogs as they hit the road on Wednesday for first-round games.
East (9-7), seeded 23rd, plays at 10th-seeded St. Stephens in Hickory.
Carson (8-9), seeded 27th, plays at sixth-seeded North Buncombe.
West (7-9), seeded 29th, plays at fourth-seeded West Henderson.

Regional action for individual qualifiers in singles and doubles is set for May 3-4, with the 2A Midwest Regional hosted by Salisbury and the 3A Midwest Regional at Les Myers Park in Concord.
