High school boys tennis: East, Carson, West eliminated from playoffs; Salisbury will face CSOD

DAVIDSON — Community School of Davidson beat East Burke 7-2 on Wednesday in the first round of the 2A dual team state playoffs.
That victory means the Spartans (10-7) will travel to Salisbury for a second-round matchup on Monday.
The second-seeded Hornets had a first-round bye.

HICKORY — East Rowan lost 9-0 at St. Stephens in a 3A first-round matchup on Wednesday.
The closest matches for the Mustangs (9-8) at 5 and 6. East’s Preston Stephens lost 6-4-6-4, while Josh Gardner lost 7-5, 6-3.

WEAVERVILLE — Carson lost 8-1 at North Buncombe in a 3A first-round matchup on Wednesday.
Karson Sloop had a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. for the Cougars (8-10).
Sloop and doubles partner Austin Atwell lost 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

HENDERSONVILLE — West Rowan lost 7-2 at West Henderson in a first-round match on Wednesday.
West Rowan (7-10) won two exciting singles matches.
Jakobe Gardner won 6-4, 1-6, (11-9) at No. 4. Isaiah Wood won 5-7, 6-1, (10-6) at No. 6.
The matches at No. 2 doubles (Sam Gulledge/Gardner) and No. 3 doubles (Wood/Callen Batts) were close.
