High school boys track and field: Lake Norman Charter wins SPC Championship Meet

CONCORD — Lake Norman Charter cruised to victory in the South Piedmont Conference Championship Meet for boys track and field on Thursday.
The Knights amassed 151.5 points with a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring system to pull away from Carson (109.5), host Robinson (103), Northwest Cabarrus (82), East Rowan (70), Concord (57), West Rowan (49), South Rowan (39) and Central Cabarrus (31).
Carson’s Connor Price, James Anderson, Eric Gillis and Bricen Burleson won the 4×800 in 8:31.
Burleson won the 800 (1:58.29) and took second in the 1600. Gillis placed second in the 3200.
Damir Miller won the high jump (6-0).
Carson’s 4×100 unit of Foday Dyer, Nehemiah Baldwing, Michael Guiton and Ayden Blevins placed second.
Carson Aman had a third in the triple jump.
East had a 1-2-3 sweep for 24 points in the pole vault with Kaleo Tolentino leading the way with a 10-8 clearance. Oliver Shank and Christian Seballos were next.
East’s Jacob Butler won the shot put (46-5.5) and was second in the discus by an inch to Northwest’s Willie Sturgis (134-6).
Jordan Brooks won the triple jump (42-11.5).
East’s 4×100 relay crew of Aiden Morris, AJ Goodman, Tyquan Danzine and Jaquare Jones placed third.
West Rowan’s Brennon Stevenson took second in the 400.
West’s 4×800 team of Jaden Still, Jayden Romero, Ethan Wilson and Jonathan Medina took third.
Eli Julian paced South’s effort with wins in the 1600 (4:21.88) and the 3200 (9:42).
Julian’s 1600 was the only clocking of the day by a Rowan athlete that was classified as “elite.”
South’s Grayson Cromer was second in the 800 (1:59.53).
