Carter Wrenn: Character hardly matters

We’ve never seen an election like this one.
There was a time, long ago, when a candidate had to pass a “smell test” — a character test — to get elected. If he flunked the test, even people who agreed with him, shaking their heads, wouldn’t vote for him.
We’re in an era now where anything goes. Character hardly matters.
Trump mocks Biden as “Sleepy Joe.” Biden mocks Trump for sleeping in the courtroom.
Trump sputters “everything Biden touches turns to sh_t.” Biden sputters Trump told “Americans to inject bleach in their arms” then “injected bleach in his hair instead.”
Mocking Biden’s stutter, Trump says, “I’m going to bring this country tuh-tuh-tuh together” — Biden makes fun of Trump selling Bibles “for $60.”
Sitting at home some folks shake their heads — but more folks love the Trump-Biden show. They want their candidate to win and don’t care how he does it. Character hardly matters — to either side.
