SALISBURY — A man has been charged after police said that he attacked two parents because their child pushed a child related to him.

The incident began when two children were playing on a trampoline at a house in the 200 block of Partee Street, said Major Justin Crews, public information officer for the Salisbury Police Department. One of the children pushed the other off of the trampoline.

When a relative, identified as 24-year-old Laquerius Markese Martin, of the child who was pushed heard about the incident, he went to the house and confronted the parents of the original child, Crews said. A few days later on May 12, Martin allegedly went back to the house on Partee Street and confronted them a second time. This time, Martin took out a tire iron and hit both parents on the head multiple times, Crews said.

Both of the victims were taken to the hospital and treated for serious head injuries, Crews said.

Martin was arrested on Saturday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $5,000 bond.
