Rockwell salon gets a makeover

ROCKWELL — Amanda Howard said she had to pray on it when she was asked to take over That Hair Pair, a Rockwell salon that had been around for decades.

Howard only began working there last July as an esthetician and tattoo artist, but by January the previous owner wanted her to run the salon and encouraged her to make it her own.

“I was overwhelmed because I don’t do hair, but still, I wanted to offer a new upgrade because it was really outdated,” Amanda said. “I just felt like it was a really good deal and I’d be stupid if I didn’t take her up on it. I thought it would be good for the community to offer services that weren’t being offered around here yet,”

After her husband, Byron, spent two-and-a-half months remodeling and renovating the building, Amanda hosted a grand opening event for the newly named Beautifully You Salon and Spa on May 25.

People were welcomed to come and mingle while enjoying snacks and each other’s company. Amanda said the alterations were limited to the inside of the building. She explained they now have new salon chairs, shampoo chairs, stations, plumbing, sinks, flooring, paint, decorations and a waiting room.

“It’s just completely changed and we just wanted to show everybody the upgrades,” Amanda said.

Byron is happy to relax and to finally see the fruits of his labor.

“Oh, it’s a relief. I’m done with it,” Byron said.

Amanda said one of the bigger adjustments to her business is that they will provide wigs, toupées and hair extensions to anyone who needs them.

“We have a lot of clients who have cancer. I think it would be beneficial to them,” Howard said.

Susan Eudy is friends with Amanda on Facebook and after coming to the grand opening, she will definitely return in the near future.

“I like it so far, it looks good,” Eudy said.

Jeanny Lee worked with Amanda at That Hair Pair before she took over and she said she is thrilled with everything that has happened in the past few months and what is yet to come.

“I’m excited actually,” Lee said. “I like how she changed and added life to this place.”
