Preview: Salisbury City Council holding public hearing for upcoming budget

SALISBURY — During its next meeting, the Salisbury City Council will be holding a public hearing on the proposed 2024-2025 fiscal year budget as part of the process for it to be formally approved by June 18. Residents are encouraged to attend and to share their thoughts on the budget that was initially presented to the city council on May 14.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 4, at the city hall building at 6 p.m. Here are the other agenda items that will be discussed: 

  • Salisbury-Rowan Utilities staff Chad Jennings, Johnny Hawkins, Jon Handy and Damon Davis will be recognized by city council for their customer service to citizens.
  • City council will be recognizing Administrative Service Director Kelly Baker who has been named assistant city manager effective June 20.
  • Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander will be making the following proclamation: Salisbury Pride Day for June 22.
  • City council will receive public comment. Anyone who wishes to speak by Zoom must sign up before 5 p.m. the day of the meeting by contacting Connie Snyder at csnyd@salisburync.gov. Residents who wish to speak in person can sign up in council chambers. Anyone who is unable to speak during the meeting may submit written comments to the email above and they will be shared with the council.
  • Senior Planner Victoria Bailiff will be asking the city council to consider adopting an ordinance amending an existing conditional district overlay for Sacred Heart Church to permit a new rectory and 36-space expansion of the existing parking lot. There will be a public hearing regarding this matter.
  • Planning and Neighborhoods Director Hannah Jacobson and Aaron Finley with Thomas P. Miller & Associates will be giving the city council an update on the 10-year housing strategy plan and to provide feedback on the draft strategic focus areas.
  • Council to consider appointments to various boards and commissions.
