One in custody after shooting at random vehicles on nearby road

ROWAN COUNTY — Deputies said that a person is in custody after they allegedly shot at multiple vehicles that were on the road in southern Rowan County.
Deputies shut down N.C. Highway 152 East near the Daugherty Road intersection at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday because a person was shooting at multiple cars on the road, hitting multiple civilians’ vehicles, said Captain Mark McDaniel, public information officer for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. McDaniel said that the suspect, who was reportedly intoxicated, also hit multiple sheriff’s office patrol vehicles during the incident.
No one was injured in the shooting, McDaniel confirmed.
The suspect is in custody and McDaniel said that there was not believed to be any further danger to the public by 9:45 p.m. on Saturday.
The identity of the person as well as any potential charges that have been pressed were not readily available. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
As of 10 p.m. on Saturday, Highway 152 East was still closed with the assistance of nearby fire departments between the Menius Road and Daugherty Road intersections.
