The Boys and Girls Club of the Piedmont is offering free scholarships for two summer camps for Rowan County students.

The first summer camp is a technology camp for boys and girls who are rising 6th to 11th graders. That camp takes place July 8-12 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

That camp will be disassembling and refurbishing a desktop and laptop computer. Campers will be able to keep or gift someone in need of a device. One part will be devoted to audio/video work, including writing and recording a radio commercial. They will receive a certificate of completion and a T-shirt. Also students will have a field trip to Gordon Iron and Metal and Sprout Recycle Center.

The second summer camp is for girls who are rising 7th to 11th grade students. That camp will be a “Women In STEAM” leadership camp, part of Abby’s Smart Girls program. A field trip is also planned. That camp takes place from July 15-19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The camps are free, but there are limited spaces. Rowan County students will be transported to Statesville and back, with daily lunch, snacks and drinks.
