SALISBURY — A man has been arrested after deputies said that an argument over cheating in his relationship ended with him shooting towards his ex-girlfriend’s house.
The incident began at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, when an argument about cheating in a relationship broke out between two women and a man outside of a home on Dixon Lane, said Chief Deputy Jason Owens, a spokesperson for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. At some point during the altercation, one of the women allegedly went into the home and grabbed a firearm, pointing it at the man and threatening him and the other woman.
The man then allegedly went into his car and grabbed his own firearm. After the argument continued for a few minutes, the man fired two or three shots towards the woman’s home, said Owens. Two children were outside, either on the porch or in the yard, and in the vicinity of the area the man fired towards.
Deputies responded to the area after the gunshots were heard and confiscated both of the firearms involved in the altercation and put them into evidence, said Owens. Deputies arrested the man, identified as 33-year-old Johnny Ray Blackwelder Jr., due to him allegedly actually firing the gun.
Blackwelder was charged with misdemeanor assault with a female, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon while minors were present and a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and was not initially given a bond due to the domestic nature of the charges.
