Preview: Salisbury City Council looking to approve upcoming budget

SALISBURY — The Salisbury City Council will be considering officially adopting the fiscal year 2024-2025 budget at its next meeting. 

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 18, at the city hall building, 217 S Main St., Salisbury, at 6 p.m.

Here are the other agenda items that will be discussed: 

  • City council will consider adopting a resolution of recognition honoring retiring Salisbury-Rowan Utilities Director James “Jim” Behmer after 23 years of service to the city. 
  • Mayor Karen Alexander will be making the following proclamations: Juneteenth Day-June 19, 2024; Amateur Radio Operators Month-June 2024; Men’s Health Month-June 2024; Independent Retailer Month-July 2024; and Parks and Recreation Month-July 2024. 
  • City council will receive public comment. Anyone who wishes to speak by Zoom must sign up before 5 p.m. the day of the meeting by contacting Connie Snyder at csnyd@salisburync.gov. Residents who wish to speak in person can sign up in council chambers. Anyone who is unable to speak during the meeting may submit written comments to the email above and they will be shared with the council.
  • Public Works Director Chris Tester and Bell Tower Greene Inc. Board Member Jason Walser will be asking the city council to consent to Bell Tower Green, Inc. providing in-kind assistance in the form of lighting improvements to Bell Tower Green Park and authorize City Manager Jim Greene to execute and deliver written consent.
  • Planning and Neighborhoods Director Hannah Jacobson will be asking the city council to consider the voluntary annexation of a little over 23 located at 570 Earnhardt Road effective June 18. There will be a public hearing regarding this matter. 
  • Jacobson will be asking the city council to consider a downtown revitalization incentive grant request for up to $150,000 to assist with the redevelopment of 121 South Main Street resulting in four new residential units and two new retail spaces. There will be a public hearing regarding this matter.
  • City Attorney Graham Corriher will be asking city council to consider adopting an ordinance amending section 13-21 of the city code related to e-scooters and e-scooter share programs.
