SALISBURY — Two men were arrested after deputies said that an armored truck driver noticed them standing near his truck wearing fake security hoodies.
Deputies responded to the Five Below store on Tingle Drive at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday in reference to two suspicious men standing outside the store, wearing black hoodies with the word security on them, according to a release from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. The deputies were reportedly notified that there was an armored truck driver outside the store and the driver of the truck was inside the store waiting for them.
The first deputy to arrive on scene noticed the two men immediately begin to walk away when he exited his vehicle, according to the release. The deputy reportedly attempted to follow the men and get them to stop, but they allegedly got into a gold-colored Nissan Altima and left the scene.
Officers with the China Grove Police Department noticed the Altima a short time later and initiated a vehicle pursuit, according to the release. The chase continued to the 800 block of Mt. Oliver Road, where three men allegedly got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
Two of the men, identified as 26-year-old Devonte Eugene Scott and 25-year-old Raymond James Tino, were reportedly arrested nearby.
While deputies were transporting the men to the sheriff’s office, Tino allegedly hit the cage in one of the patrol vehicles damaging it.
Officers also reportedly located a .40-caliber Glock handgun in the Altima while searching it.
Tino was charged with felony conspiracy to commit robbery with a firearm or other dangerous weapon, misdemeanor injury to personal property and misdemeanor resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer.
Scott was charged with felony conspiracy to commit robbery with a firearm or other dangerous weapon.
Both Tino and Scott were placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and were not given a bond due to the Pretrial Integrity Act, according to the release.
