Kannapolis train impact victim identified

KANNAPOLIS — The man killed after being struck by a train Thursday in Kannapolis has been identified.
Javieon Auviance Drayton, 20, of Concord, died following the incident that occurred around 10:45 a.m. near the intersection of East E Street and South Ridge Avenue.
According to information from Kannapolis Communications Director Annette Privette Keller, the city’s police department was dispatched to the scene shortly afterward in reference to a pedestrian being hit by a passing train.
Drayton died from his injuries. Additional details, such as the victim’s identity, were not immediately released. A Thursday email from Keller, indicated that next of kin had yet to be notified. A narrative of the events preceding the impact were not included in the update.
