Rowan County travels to Kannapolis for a big American Legion game on Friday.

Rowan (12-10, 4-2) still has three division games left to play as the regular season winds down. Rowan plays at Mocksville on Saturday and is home against Concord on Sunday.

Kannapolis and Mocksville have split division games with Rowan, while Concord has played everyone tough of late.

Two of the four Southern Division of Area III teams qualify for the playoffs. Rowan will need to win two of the last three to be sure of a spot in the postseason.

Kannapolis (4-4) suffered a critical loss on Wednesday, falling 2-1 at Concord.

Will Bradshaw had the RBI for Kannapolis in the first inning. Daxton Savage and Zach Helms had two hits each.

Mocksville still has a game left with Concord.

A.L. Brown graduate Cord Butler, who had an undefeated All-America season at Division III N.C. Wesleyan, announced that he’ll be joining High Point’s Division I program for next season.

Former East Rowan star Chance Mako announced a transfer from N.C. State to Coastal Carolina.

Mako made only two appearances for the Wolfpack as a freshman, but the 6-foot-7 right-hander has MLB potential and was considered a top-75 high school prospect nationally when he graduated with East’s Class of 2023.

Mako, who officially entered the transfer portal on June 17, is pitching in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer for the Harwich Mariners.
