ROWAN COUNTY — A two-year-old child is expected to recover after first responders and family members saved her from drowning.
Deputies initially responded to a home on Crystal Creek Court, in southern Rowan County, in reference to a toddler potentially drowning, according to a press release from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
The family reportedly told the deputies that they had been having a family meal outdoors when one of the people discovered the toddler unresponsive in the family’s pool. One of the family members grabbed the kid out of the water and began to perform CPR while the others called 911, according to the release.
When the deputies arrived on scene, the mother of the child approached them with the toddler in her arms, at which point the mother laid them on the ground and a deputy immediately began to perform CPR, according to the release. Shortly after beginning CPR, officers from the China Grove and Landis police departments reportedly arrived on scene and began to assist the deputies.
The child was originally transported to North East Medical Center in Concord before being taken to an unnamed hospital, stated the release. There, the child’s prognosis is listed as favorable.
“Our prayers are with the family and this child as she recovers,” said the sheriff’s office in the release.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was continuing to investigate the incident as of Monday afternoon, according to the release.
