GREENSBORO — The annual East-West All-Star basketball games were held on Monday night at Novant Fieldhouse.
While the summer games no longer feature mega-stars such as Pete Maravich and James Worthy, they do still attract some of the state’s top graduating seniors to play.
West Rowan graduate Lauren Arnold, Rowan County Player of the Year as a senior and a two-time state champ, suited up for the West girls. Arnold had eight points, three rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist in an 84-68 loss.
Arnold, who signed with Mars Hill, had an old-fashioned three-point play and also made a 3-pointer late in the first half.
The game’s dominant player was Jasmine Felton from Elizabeth City’s Northeastern High. The Campbell recruit scored 30 points for the East on 13-for-17 shooting.

In the boys game, the West rolled 108-92.
The key player was Jamias Ferere from Southern Guilford. He scored 30.
Chase and Carson Daniel, twin guards who played for coach Jim Baker at Central Cabarrus, combined for 15 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the winners. They are Catawba recruits.
For decades, the North Carolina Coaches’ Association hosted basketball, soccer and football all-star games during a week in the middle of July. Its football all-star game has recently been moved to December, hoping that could allow for more top college recruits to play. The other two remain during the summer.
After the basketball games — now inside the smaller Novant Health Fieldhouse — were played Monday night, the soccer all-star games are on Tuesday. At Grimsley High’s Jameison Stadium, the girls’ game starts at 6:30 p.m., with the boys’ following at 8:30 p.m.
