Landis woman dies in Kannapolis crash

KANNAPOLIS – Officials confirmed this morning that a 67-year-old Landis woman, Elizabeth Whitehead Chewning, died in a car accident Friday night.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Coldwater Ridge Drive and Dale Earnhardt around 7 p.m.
Chewning was the passenger in a Toyota Corolla that was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Coldwater Ridge Drive onto Dale Earnhardt Boulevard. The vehicle was struck by a Ford Fusion driven by Ty Bush, 21, of Concord. The driver of the Corolla, Samuel Chewning, 67, of Landis, was taken to the hospital and is being treated for his injuries.
The accident investigation remains ongoing.
