LANDIS — In preparation for the inclement weather expected as a result of Tropical Storm Debby, Landis town officials declared a state of emergency Wednesday evening.

The town of Landis Code of Ordinances, Chapter 32, Civil Emergencies, provides procedures by which the mayor or mayor protem may declare a state of emergency. According to the emergency ordinance passed on Wednesday, Town Manager Michael Ambrose requested the declaration, which Mayor Meredith Bare Smith approved.

“I, Mayor, Meredith Bare Smith, therefore, proclaim the existence of a state of emergency in the town of Landis for the Emergency Preparation and Hazard Mitigation measures to begin for Lake Landis and Lake Corriher, along with associated dams, in anticipation of the impacts from the storm, known as Tropical Storm Debby,” the ordinance said.

The proclamation was posted in a notice at Landis Town Hall, on the town’s website and submitted to the Salisbury Post.
