SALISBURY — The man who was killed in an early morning shooting on Saturday, Aug. 10, has been identified by police as Charles William, 80 of Salisbury. A child who also suffered gunshot wounds in the incident remains in critical condition in ICU at an area hospital.
Police say they received reports of shots fired at 128 Rowan Mill Road at 5:30 a.m. Saturday. Neighbors reported hearing at least 30 shots fired. Neighbors also said a shooting that happened about 11:15 a.m. the previous Thursday, Aug. 8, was at the same address, and expressed concerns about the possibility of another shooting. They all chose to remain anonymous, fearing for their own safety. No one was injured in Thursday’s incident.
Police say the shooting was not random and that there is no direct threat to the broader community, but no suspects have yet been arrested.
There were at least 16 people in the house at the time of the shooting, according to police, including some children who ranged in age up to teenage years. Several car doors were open at the scene Saturday and police said it appeared some in the house had initially tried to leave, but officers asked everyone to stay to gather as much information as possible.
One neighbor said she had moved back to her family home about four years ago and made extensive renovations, but now is concerned about her safety.
