High school volleyball: Raiders win again; Hornets compete in first match

LANDIS — South Rowan’s volleyball team won its fifth match in a row on Tuesday.
The Raiders beat Salisbury 21-25, 25-14, 25-20 and 25-16 in a non-conference match.
South hadn’t lost a set this year before dropping the first one to the Hornets on Tuesday. South trailed 10-2 in the third set before tuning things around for good with a big run.
The Hornets were making their season debut. They have a new coach — Ny’Asia Harris — but they have an experienced team with most of the key players back from last season.
Campbell Withers had 26 digs for the Raiders, while Meghan Eagle had 25, Avery Fisher 19, Meredith Faw 17 and Raegan Shell 16.
Eagle and Shell combined for 24 assists.
Fisher had eight kills. Faw and Eagle had six each. Clancy Street had five.
Ashley Yang had 30 assists and 22 digs for the Hornets.
Ava Morris had 11 kills, with Kendall Henderson getting nine, Carmen McQueen getting seven and Dayami Acevedo adding five.
Acevedo had 22 digs. Morris had 17, with Myers getting 15 and Kyliah Pearson-Hasty adding eight.
Acevedo served four aces.

South Rowan (4-1) won 25-4 and 25-13 in the jayvee matchup.
Aubree Knight had 15 assists. Lilygrace Leonard had six kills. Makenna Jones served five aces.

South plays at home against Northwest Cabarrus on Wednesday.
A big SPC match on Wednesday will be Carson at East Rowan.
Salisbury plays Pine Lake Prep next Monday.
