High school girls tennis roundup: Hornets, Cougars, Falcons win

SALISBURY — Salisbury’s girls tennis team beat West Davidson 8-1 to open Central Carolina Conference play on Wednesday.

Lucy Barr, Meredith Williams, Lola Koontz, Anna Kate Goodman and Gabriella Fatovic racked up singles wins for the Hornets (3-0, 1-0).

Barr/Williams, Goodman/Koontz and Addison Griffith/Fatovic were winning doubles teams.

Deanna Loftis won for the Green Dragons at No. 3 singles.

GRANITE QUARRY — Carson won its first match of the season by pulling out a 5-4 South Piedmont Conference decision against East Rowan on Wednesday.

It couldn’t have been any tighter.

Carson’s Allie Martin won 6-4, 6-3 against Jaylen Jones at No. 1 singles.

No. 3 seed Sophie Lipe and No. 4 seed Caylee Sheets also won singles matches for the Cougars.

Mady Morris, Mackenzie Carrico and Ava Quick won for East at 2, 5 and 6 for a 3-3 tie after singles.

Martin/Maggie Cooper won at No. 1 doubles.

Carrico/Ava Qucik won for the Mustangs at No. 3 doubles.

The decisive match was a 9-8 victory by Lipe/Sheets at No. 2 doubles.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan cruised to a 6-0 South Piedmont Conference win against Robinson on Wednesday.

The Falcons (2-1) got singles wins from Autumn Yount, Emma Crider, Lucy Moore, Olyvia Brown, Ally Suggs and Laney Moore.
