A man became trapped under a wall of dirt and a boulder while working on clearing some property about three miles off Deal Road Wednesday afternoon.

Exact details of how the accident happened are still not clear, but firefighters and emergency personnel had some difficulty reaching the victim because he was so far off the road and most of the emergency vehicles were unable to manage the terrain. Most vehicles were asked to stage along Deal Road, which was reduced to one lane of alternating traffic for more than an hour.

Firefighters called for ATV assistance to reach the victim, and EMS staff rode an ATV down to him. Firefighters were able to get him out of the vehicle and determine he had a leg injury but they were able to cancel a medical helicopter and bring the victim out in a pickup truck. He was then transported to an area hospital for treatment.
