High school volleyball roundup: Mustangs, Falcons win

LANDIS — East Rowan’s volleyball team had a big South Piedmont Conference win on Wednesday.

The Mustangs (10-4, 4-1) swept South Rowan on the road — 25-22, 25-22 and 29-27.

South (7-1, 5-1) stormed to a 14-4 lead in the third set, but East came back to hand the Raiders their first loss.

Blocks made the difference for a taller East team. Kady Collins had five.

Leigan Lusk, the tallest Mustang, returned from an ankle injury, had five kills and forced quite a few errors, as Raiders tried to hit over or around her.

Cameron Ostle had 16 kills and 13 digs for the Mustangs. Alli Corl had nine kills and 15 digs. Madalynn Tigert had five kills and 19 digs. Jacee Eudy had 30 assists and 16 digs. Jordan Dry had 13 kills and was the key person on serve receive, taking 31 balls.

Meredith Faw had 11 kills and 14 digs to lead South.

Avery Fisher had 19 digs. Campbell Withers had 17 digs. Meghan Eagle had 13 digs.

Eagle (10) and Raegan Shell (9) combined for 19 assists.

SALISBURY — Salisbury was competitive with West Davidson but was swept in Wednesday’s Central Carolina Conference match.

The Green Dragons won 25-18, 31-29 and 25-15.

Salisbury had a 24-21 lead in the second set, but couldn’t put the visitors away.

Ava Morris had nine kills and 19 digs for the Hornets.

Ashley Yang had 33 assists and 11 digs. Kendall Henderson had eight kills.

Dayami Acevedo had seven kills and 12 digs. Addie Myers had seven kills and 17 digs.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan won its third straight, sweeping Northwest Cabarrus 25-10, 25-21 and 25-13 in South Piedmont Conference action on Wednesday.

Lydia Wilson had 13 kills and 15 digs. Skyy Ruben had eight kills and five blocks.

Lainey Sweet had six kills and served four aces.

Sophia Blackledge had 14 digs and four blocks.
