SALISBURY — The Rowan County Church Golf League, hosted by McCanless Golf Club for the past 19 years, once again demonstrated a commitment to community service and charitable giving.

This season, with support from title sponsor McLane Food Service, the league raised $5,984, which will be split between Rowan Helping Ministries and Meals on Wheels Rowan.

Since its founding, the Rowan County Church Golf League has raised approximately $59,000 for local charities, all nominated and voted on by the league’s players. This year’s chosen beneficiaries, Rowan Helping Ministries and Meals on Wheels Rowan, reflect the league’s dedication to supporting organizations that embody the spirit of Christian service and community care.

“We are incredibly thankful to the Rowan County Church Golf League and all the participating congregations for their support,” said Kyna Grubb, executive director of Rowan Helping Ministries. “The local faith community is the backbone of our organization, and we could not fulfill our mission without their service and generosity.”

Meals on Wheels Rowan also expressed gratitude for the donation. “We are deeply grateful to the Rowan County Church Golf League for the generosity,” said Cindy Fink, executive director of Meals on Wheels Rowan. “This donation is more than just financial support; it’s a lifeline for the homebound older adults we serve. The funds raised will help us provide free nutritious meals to our most vulnerable seniors and provide the social interaction that many of our clients rely on.”

The 2024 season saw participation from 16 teams representing 13 churches across Rowan County, including Carolina Family Church, Community Church of Mt. Pleasant, Faith Baptist Church, Grace Lutheran Church, Kannapolis Church of God, Lake Community Church, Living Water Church, Nazareth Community Church, Providence United Methodist Church, Remedy Church, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Summerville Baptist Church, and Village Chapel Church. Faith Baptist Church has been a participant since the league’s inception in 2005.

The season concluded with an exciting End of Season Tournament on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Living Water Church, led by Team Captain Rich Workman, emerged victorious against Village Chapel Church No. 2 Team, securing the overall championship for the second consecutive year.

The Rowan County Church Golf League operates annually from late April through August, fostering fellowship, friendly competition, and charitable giving among local church communities. The league begins each year with an organizational meeting in late March, where churches nominate charities for the upcoming season.

Scott Perry, general manager of McCanless Golf Club and a key organizer of the league, expressed his enthusiasm for the league’s efforts: “No matter your ability as a golfer, we work hard to make the matchups fun and competitive throughout the season. Regardless of winning or losing, we all win knowing that we’ve done what we can to help spread the hope and love of Jesus Christ.”

Churches in the surrounding area are encouraged to join the league. For more information or to learn how your church can participate, contact Scott Perry at 704-637-1235 or themacg@gmail.com
