KANNAPOLIS — An overnight fire at a home in the 1100 block of Edgewood Avenue left an unknown number of residents displaced, according to officials. The Red Cross was helping with housing.

There were no reported injuries in the fire which was called in to 911 at 2:04 a.m. The first firefighters on scene with Kannapolis Engine 21 reported there was heavy fire in the back of the home that had reached the attic. Firefighters began a very aggressive offensive attack of the fire and had it knocked down within four minutes, according to department reports. A search of the home found no one inside and other agencies helped in both that search and in venting the structure.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Kannapolis Fire Marshal’s office.
